Optics in Sub-wavelength: LSPR in Ag Bowtie nano-antennas and SOI nano-waveguides

Nanoplasmonics and high-index dielectric waveguide are currently attracting a lot of interest in optical community due to their potential applications for next-generation nanometer scaled optical devices. The goal of my work is to unveil the underlying physics with regard to optical nano-antennas (at Universite de Technologie de Troyes, France) and sub-micron silicon-on-isolator waveguide (at University of Bath, UK) by theoretical and experimental methods. By investigating the evolution of the LSPR in an Ag Bowtie nano-antenna with the bow angle, we highlight the diversity of the excitation in optical nano-antennas and its meaning for application. By probing silicon photonic wires and nanowire arrays with ultrashort optical pulses, we provide a better understanding to the first principles in such waveguides and the corresponding typical parameters.
